Nystatin – Newly Available Drug for Extemporaneous Preparation

Summary

Nystatin is an antimycotic drug used for a long time in clinical practice. In the Czech Republic it was available only in the form of commercially available products and not as a substance for compounded prescriptions prepared in pharmacy. Because of its wide use, especially in skin oral and gastrointestinal candidal infections, and because of a restricted number of commercial preparations it is convenient to have nystatin available as a substance for individual compounding. The article introduces the above mentioned drug, presents selected formulations used abroad and brings it to the attention of Czech dermatologists as, since the February 2010, nystatin substance became available also in pharmacies in the Czech Republic.
