Recenzia monografie: „Peripheral nervous system: interrelationships and variations“ autorov Matejčík Viktor, Haviarová Zora, Kuruc Roman

V novembri 2024 vydavateľstvo Springer Nature vydalo vedeckú monografiu skúseného kolektívu autorov z Lekárskej fakulty UK v Bratislave komplexne hodnotiacu morfologické a klinické aspekty jednotlivých zložiek periférneho nervového systému (PNS) a ich podiel na rôznych patologických stavoch, ktorých predoperačná diagnostika býva obťažná, až nemožná. Dôkladne opisuje topografiu, morfológiu a zvláštnosti PNS – teda skutočnosti často chýbajúce v anatomických a chirurgických učebniciach – a ich možný vplyv na klinickú prezentáciu. Obrázky a perokresby rozširujú poznatky o štruktúrach, ktoré boli doteraz zdokumentované len čiastočne. Popisy autorov vychádzajú z klinických pozorovaní a systematickej práce na 246 telách ľudí, ktorí zomreli náhlou alebo násilnou smrťou (najčastejšie pri autonehodách). Pitva ostáva stále najpresnejšou metódou umožňujúcou objasniť existenciu, typ a rozsah rôznych odchýlok od normy, ktoré svojmu nositeľovi nespôsobujú žiadne problémy, ale sú často zodpovedné za neúspech chirurgickej liečby. Poznanie uvedených anomálií pomôže neurológom, chirurgom aj internistom porozumieť symptomatológii menej častých klinických syndrómov a včasná identifikácia jednotlivých variácií PNS pomôže operatérom počas výkonu minimalizovať riziko poškodenia nervových štruktúr.

Text monografie pozostáva zo 6 častí rozdelených do 18 kapitol. Je doplnený 13 tabuľkami prezentujúcimi vlastné výsledky, 120 farebnými fotografiami a perokresbami. Obrazová dokumentácia je veľmi kvalitná a rukopis zásadne obohacuje.

Údaje uvedené v tejto publikácii môžu byť užitočné pre traumatológov, ortopédov, spinálnych chirurgov, neurochirurgov, plastických chirurgov, ako aj pre neurológov a neurofyziológov a pre všetkých, ktorí sa touto oblasťou zaoberajú alebo sa o ňu zaujímajú.
