Overview
Spontaneous tympanoplasty, developed due to productive – reparative processes in the course of chronic middle ear inflammations, most often with cholesteatoma, adapt the appearance of ecranization or columellization (columella formation) without various possible varieties. In the whole group of patients operated on middle ear for chronic inflammation hey represent about one fourth. In view of the permanent character of very good postoperative hearing these should be given priority over standardized surgical artifacts. Preoperative diagnostics of spontaneous tympanoplasty is based on good hearing and in case of uncertainty on HRCT. The preservation of spontaneous tympanoplasty shortens the duration of the operation and excludes the need of two-stage operations and second look.
