Overview

As in other fields, the past 25 years have seen concentrated research in the area of drugs that reduce blood clotting-antithrombotics. Their purposeful application dates to the early 20th century and the past 25 years have seen intense acceleration of this interest. These drugs include not only classical products, but mainly new targeted drugs affecting blood clotting at specific sites. These represent the group of novel or direct anticoagulants (NOACs or DOACs).

Keywords:

NOAC – dabigatran – antithrombotics – Anticoagulants – unfractionated heparin (UFH) – low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) – warfarin – laboratory monitoring
