Otological Manifestations of Latent Infection with the Varicella ZosterVirus (Ramsey-Hunt Syndrome)

Overview
The authors summarize hitherto assembled knowledge on the manifestation of latentinfections with the Varicella Zoster virus. The paper presents some more recent views not only onthe pathophysiology but also on diagnostic methods and possible therapeutic strategies. Based ontheir own group of patients the authors draw attention to difficulties associoated with assessmentof the correct diagnosis. They discuss the results with those from other groups and pay detailedattention to affections of hearing and prognostic prerequisities for its restoration.
