Overview
A total of 1,313 cases of occupation-related diseases in 1,107 workers were reported in the Czech Republic in 2009. Of these, 1,245 were occupational diseases and 68 cases were given the status of being endangered by an occupational disease. The incidence of occupational diseases was 28.7 cases per 100,000 of employed health insurance policyholders in the public sector. In comparison with previous year, the number of occupational diseases decreased by 6.4 % (90 cases). Most of the occupational diseases were found in the Moravian-Silesian region (317 cases, 24.1 %). Most of the recognised cases occurred in the economic sector of “health and social services” (214 cases, 16.3 %). The most frequently recognised diagnosis was carpal tunnel syndrome (308 cases, 24.7 %). Scabies (129 cases) and contact allergic dermatitis (128 cases) were the other most frequently reported occupational diseases. Among the cases reported as having the status of being at risk of developing an occupational disease, carpal tunnel syndrome predominated (46 cases, 67.6 %).
