Syndrom horní duté žíly je relativně častou komplikací pacientů s maligním onemocněním plic a mediastina. Za standardní terapii je považována radioterapie a chemoterapie. V posledních 20 letech se stále častěji užívají endovaskulární intervenční metody – implantace stentů a lokální trombolýza, které jsou účinnější a efektivnější v léčbě obstrukce či stenózy horní duté žíly.
