Consumption increase of psychogeriatric care in Czech Republic

The aim of the paper is to show how consumption of psychogeriatric care increases in time and to pay much bigger attention to psychogeriatry in context of Czech psychiatric care reform. Psychogeriatry stood behind attention for a long time. With regards to demographic ageing of the Czech population, prevalence of organic disorders including dementia increases. Financial expenditures for cognitive treatment increase, as well as mean age of psychogeriatric patients, what determines further expenditures (multimorbidity with requirements for further interdisciplinary and expensive care). Czech psychiatric care reform shouldn´t lead only to better cost-effectiveness, but also to more attentive atittude towards subspecializations in psychiatry, such as psychogeriatry.
