The Czech version of the VSQOL Index questionnaire: translation and linguistic validation

Overview

Introduction: The Vestibular Schwannoma Quality of Life Index (VSQOL Index, Mayo Clinic, version 2) is a tool for assessing the impact of vestibular schwannoma and its treatment on patients‘ quality of life, with an emphasis on aspects reported by patients that are the main determinants of their quality of life. This allows the progression of the disease to be monitored, assists in deciding on a treatment strategy, and leads to a better understanding of this diagnosis. Methodology: As part of this study, the questionnaire was adapted and translated into Czech using the TRAPD methodology. The translation took place in several stages –⁠ independent translation by two linguists, revision by the translation team, adjudication, and creation of the final version, which was then pre-tested on a sample of patients with vestibular schwannoma and healthy subjects. The entire translation process was documented in detail. Result: A Czech version of the VSQOL Index questionnaire was created, which corresponds in meaning to the original and is understandable to the target population. Conclusion: The Czech version of the VSQOL Index is ready for psychometric validation and use in clinical practice and research.
