Overview

The 1950s were a difficult period for genetics due to so-called Lysenkoism, from which it only recovered in the second half of the 1960s. Nevertheless, at that time, several scientists and educators of at least European level worked in Czechoslovakia. Among them was professor Otakar Štark –⁠ head of the Biological Institute of the Faculty of General Medicine, Charles University, and a significant figure in medical genetics, whose death is commemorated this year, marking 35 years.
