Risks of imported diseases for the population of the Czech Republic

Overview
Czech travellers returning from abroad and new immigrants can consult general practitioners (GP) because of febrile illness or other health problems. GP should think about imported infections in everyday practice. Communicable diseases continue to pose a threat for European countries. Relatively new infectious diseases (e.g. Zika virus) are emerging, old diseases are reappearing (e.g., tuberculosis, haemorrhagic fevers), and incidences for many diseases are rising (e.g., sexually transmitted infections). Pandemic diseases and biological weapons represent a great risk for the global population. Despite these risks the most common imported disease in the Czech Republic remains travelers´ diarrhea.
