Overview
Introduction:
With the gradual more liberalised attitude of society towards sexuality and intimacy, sex is no longer such a taboo as it used to be 20 years ago. The truth is that both teenagers as well as productive age people have become used to the fact that sex is a common element and part of their lives. The issue is that retired people can also be, and actually are, sexually active. Sometimes we even somehow mentally refuse to believe the fact that people living in Social Service Homes and Homes for the elderly have sex and are sexually active too.Aim of study:
To determine the quality of the sex lives of elderly clients in homes and to discover the factors that influence it.Material and methodology:
We devised a non-standardized questionnaire. Descriptive statistics have been used to evaluate the data. Results and outcomes:
The study reviews the sexual behaviour of the elderly, in particular the clients of retirement homes. It shows that sex is an important part of their lives, it is a common practice implemented in various forms and if it is not, the reasons are usually concerned with seniors’ health or the absence of a sexual partner. The study looks for the causes that have an impact on decreased quality of sexual life and tries to point out particular weaknesses caused by living in a social facility of this kind.Key words:
senior, sexuality, retirement homes
