Overview
Epidemics of seasonal flu occur nearly every year in the winter months, and they have a mild to a mid serious course. However at intervals of various lengths, a new highly contagious virus strain arises, often responsible for different clinical symptoms. The virus spreads all over the world: a flu pandemic occurs. The last pandemic occurred in 1977 and it was caused by the A H1N1 virus. Since May 2009 and over the summer months, a flu caused by a different subtype of the A H1N1 virus has spread rapidly worldwide – a new pandemic occurred, also affecting the Czech Republic.
Key words:
flu seasonal and pandemic, swine flu, occurrence in CZ, vaccines.
