Overview

During 1999-2000 at the First Surgical Clinc 604 patients were operated on account of herniasin the groin, 81.3% on account of primary hernias and 18.7% on account of relapsing hernias.In relapsing hernias in 81% a first relapse was involved,in 15% a second relapse and in 4% atleast a third relapse. During surgery the following plastic procedures were used:McVay-Lotheis¦en (20.3%), TAPP (31%), PHS (21.2%, plug (16.8%) and Lichtenstein (9.7%).Recurrence during the follow-up of 12 months occurred once after TAPP, once after McVay-Land once after Lichtenstein plastic operation (the follow-up comprises 95% patients after plugand 88% patients after TAPP).Both methods are safe and reliable surgery of relapsing inguinalhernias.
