Overview

Between January 20 and September 30 1997, Tazocin was administered to 22 patients at Surgery Dep 1, University Hospital Olomouc, as antibioticmonotherapy after surgery procedures in cases of serious intraabdominal primary infections. Average time of administration was 8 days. In all cases, cultivated infectious pathogens were senzitive to Tazocin, and at the third or fourth day of administration relief of symptoms and decrease in bodytemperature was observed. We encountered no side effects. Hematological hepatal and renal functions remained within the normal range. CRP, IL-2rand IL-8 gradually decreased during therapy. The causing pathogens were found in control tests only in 16.7% of cases. Administration of Tazocinproved to be very effective, in no case the investigators had to change or modify the therapy. No superinfection was encountered. Tazocin was bypatients well tolerated.
