The Proton Therapy Center in Prague (PTC −⁠ Proton Therapy Center Czech) is a modern healthcare facility specializing in the treatment of oncological diseases using so-called proton radiotherapy. This therapy is covered by public health insurance in indicated cases. Since its opening in 2012, PTC has treated nearly 10,000 patients, not only from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2019, it became part of the National Oncology Center.

News Thrombocytopenia Following mRNA Vaccination Against SARS-CoV-2

In connection with the administration of mRNA-based vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, cases of secondary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) have been described. A commentary published by a large team of authors in the American Journal of Hematology described a series of cases of low platelet counts identified within 2 weeks of vaccination. The data was obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), as well as through direct communication with patients and their physicians.

News Benefit of Adding Erdosteine to Maintenance Treatment of COPD

Erdosteine is a mucoactive drug with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-adhesive effects against bacteria, commonly used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In August 2022, another post-hoc analysis of the RESTORE study was published, evaluating the impact of its addition to COPD maintenance treatment on the incidence and severity of exacerbations and quality of life in patients with GOLD2 and GOLD3 grade bronchial obstruction.

News Long-term survival of a 50-year-old man with metastatic pancreatic cancer on a combination of nal-IRI + 5-FU/LV in 2nd line treatment −⁠ case study

A recently published case study from the Czech Republic describes a patient with progression of pancreatic cancer following surgical treatment and adjuvant chemotherapy, who achieved a one-year survival with good quality of life on a combination of nal-IRI + 5-FU/LV after the failure of gemcitabine + nab-paclitaxel in the 1st line of palliative treatment.

News Stabilization of Liver Metastases of CRC with Trifluridine/Tipiracil in 3rd Line Therapy –⁠ Case Study

We present a case study of a man born in 1944 who underwent resection of the rectosigmoid for multiple adenocarcinomas in February 2016. Subsequently discovered liver metastases were managed with several lines of palliative therapy in combination with repeated surgical resections. Trifluridine/tipiracil administered in the 3rd line represents a well-tolerated oral treatment for this patient, on which he achieved disease stabilization.
