News Trastuzumab Deruxtecan in Patients with HER2+ Metastatic Breast Cancer
Last year, results of studies published in the Lancet journal demonstrated a significant clinical benefit of trastuzumab deruxtecan in patients with HER2+ metastatic breast cancer (mBC) pre-treated with anti-HER2 therapy, in the 2nd or later lines of treatment compared to trastuzumab emtansine (DESTINY-Breast03 study, second interim overall survival analysis) and after failure of trastuzumab emtansine compared to physician's choice of therapy (DESTINY-Breast02 study).Source: Ovarian and Breast Cancer 12. 3. 2024News Treatment of Diabetes in Pregnancy with Metformin Does Not Increase the Risk of Low Birth Weight
In several studies, it has been observed that exposure to metformin during pregnancy, compared to insulin exposure, is associated with an increased relative risk of the newborn being small for gestational age. The authors of the presented cohort study aimed to clarify this risk in comparison to women with gestational diabetes who were not pharmacologically treated.Source: Modern Treatment of Diabetes 21. 2. 2023News Eletriptan as an effective and safe drug in acute migraine therapy
In the pharmacotherapy of acute migraine attacks, a pharmacologically diverse group of triptans is particularly used. The choice of the right antimigraine drug should be individualized, based on the intersection of the patient's nature of complaints and the pharmacological profile of the drug. The following text briefly summarizes the basic characteristics and profile of eletriptan.Source: Treatment of Severe Migraine 20. 9. 2021News Satisfaction of Patients Treated with Platinum Derivatives with Antiemetic Therapy
The fixed oral combination of netupitant with palonosetron (NEPA) is used for the prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy. A prospective German study evaluated the benefit of this therapy on the quality of life of patients treated with platinum derivatives.Source: Antiemetic Therapy 23. 9. 2020News Sequential Treatment of Schizophrenia – Interactive Case Study
Sequential treatment of schizophrenia helps psychiatrists clarify the stage of the patient's treatment and how to further guide pharmacotherapy. The following case study illustrates the possibilities for reducing negative and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia while adhering to a metabolically sparing treatment approach.Source: Modern Treatment of Schizophrenia 14. 9. 2023News Treatment for Transthyretin Cardiac Amyloidosis is Now More Accessible to Czech Patients
Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis is a serious progressive disease that was until recently considered untreatable. In recent years, however, new treatment options targeting the underlying pathology of the disease have emerged, which, along with advances in non-invasive diagnostics, offer patients hope for a longer and better-quality life.Source: Amyloidosis 15. 6. 2023News New Hematological Biomarker for Early Diagnosis of Sepsis
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of mortality and healthcare expenditure worldwide. Early diagnosis and treatment of septic conditions improve patient prognosis. However, the initial symptoms of sepsis can be difficult to distinguish from other acute conditions due to similar symptomatology. The results of the study presented below indicate that a new hematological biomarker has the potential to facilitate the early diagnosis of sepsis.Source: Because 13. 9. 2021Články časopisu

Ozanimod is classified as a modulator of sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptors types 1 and 5. It is approved for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) and moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC) and continues to undergo intensive clinical research. The DAYBREAK open-label, single-arm study for participants with RRMS from previous trials with ozanimod was scheduled to be completed by January 2023, and its final results can therefore be expected soon. Memantine is an inhibitor of NMDA receptors, which are pathologically activated by excessive concentrations of glutamate in the synaptic cleft in Alzheimer's disease. It is indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe cases of Alzheimer's disease, often in combination with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. At the experimental level, its administration shows a number of promising effects, including an impact on diabetes associated with the development of neurodegenerative diseases.Source: Cognitive in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease 26. 1. 2022News Rebound effect after denosumab discontinuation in a patient with lung cancer
The case study of a patient with metastatic lung cancer describes the emergence of vertebral fractures following the discontinuation of denosumab. This antiresorptive treatment was halted prophylactically to reduce the risk of osteonecrosis in connection with a planned dental procedure. Fifteen months after receiving the last dose of denosumab, the patient experienced atraumatic compression fractures of the spine requiring kyphoplasty to alleviate symptoms. Other causes of the fractures were ruled out.Source: Prevention of Bone Events 16. 11. 2022News Metabolic Effect of Telmisartan and Candesartan in Kidney Transplant Patients

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the most aggressive type of lung tumor. Although it responds well to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, due to the early onset of treatment resistance, the 5-year survival rate is less than 10%. After more than 30 years of very limited progress in treating advanced SCLC patients, immune checkpoint inhibitors (checkpoints) have been introduced to the market, significantly prolonging survival. What are the current recommendations for treating patients with advanced SCLC?Source: Small Cell Lung Cancer 22. 2. 2024
