In connection with the administration of mRNA-based vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, cases of secondary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) have been described. A commentary published by a large team of authors in the American Journal of Hematology described a series of cases of low platelet counts identified within 2 weeks of vaccination.
