News Prof. Miloš Broďák: Introduction of new drugs has significantly improved results even in progressive and recurrent prostate cancers

News Frequency of Mutations in Genes Predisposing to Ovarian Cancer in the Czech Population

The authors of a Czech study evaluating the occurrence of mutations in tumor-predisposing genes for ovarian cancer hypothesized that if their occurrence in patients with this diagnosis was significant, identifying carriers of these mutations could help reduce the prevalence and mortality of this disease given the absence of other screening tools.

News Proton radiotherapy means lower risk with high efficacy of radiation. The key is getting the patient into the treatment process as soon as possible

The Proton Therapy Center in Prague (PTC −⁠ Proton Therapy Center Czech) is a modern healthcare facility specializing in the treatment of oncological diseases using so-called proton radiotherapy. This therapy is covered by public health insurance in indicated cases. Since its opening in 2012, PTC has treated nearly 10,000 patients, not only from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2019, it became part of the National Oncology Center.

News Thrombocytopenia Following mRNA Vaccination Against SARS-CoV-2

In connection with the administration of mRNA-based vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, cases of secondary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) have been described. A commentary published by a large team of authors in the American Journal of Hematology described a series of cases of low platelet counts identified within 2 weeks of vaccination. The data was obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), as well as through direct communication with patients and their physicians.
