Overview

This summary work presenting a currently views of the identification, significance and management of sentinel lymph node micrometastases breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy is new standard of care for axillary node staging in early breast cancer, which allows enhanced pathologic analysis. Using serial sections and immunohistochemical staining identifies of conventionally node-negative patients who are converted to node-positive and thereby became candidates for systematic adjuvant chemotherapy. A number of retrospective studies suggest that axillary nodal micrometastases are prognostically significant and cause increasing locoregional recurence and worse survival. The currently prospective studies can give definitive answers of this questions.

Key words:
micrometastasis — sentinel lymph node biopsy
