Bipolar Coagulation BiClamp® in the Operation on Thyroid Gland

Overview
Aim of the paper is to refer our experience with bipolar coagulation BiClamp 150 ERBE that works on the basis of thermofusion of tissue. Study has been focused in thyroid gland surgery.
We used this instrument in 61 thyroid gland operations. We performed 49 total thyroidectomies, 4 lobectomies, 2 hemithyroidectomies and 6 revision thyroidectomies. None revision was needed. We observed one-sided recurrent nerve palsy in 3 patients, once it has been spontaneusly resolved, once we had to cut the nerve due to tumorous infiltration.
Accordind to our experience, BiClamp is an effective method of hemostasis in head and neck surgery.
