Overview
The Czech healthcare system achieves a high rating in foreign comparison where in some areas it is even on the top among all countries. There are still several areas where the Czech healthcare system lags the countries of Western Europe in particular, and several opportunities to increase quality, availability and efficiency can be identified. The long-term challenges of the Czech healthcare system include growing unit expenditures on the provision of care and negative demographic developments.
The new challenges include addressing the direct and indirect effects of COVID-19, which (given the current developments) will affect the Czech healthcare system for a very long time to come.
