Talek je v současné době ve světě nejpoužívanějším prostředkem pro chemickou pleurodézu při pleurálním výpotkua pneumotoraxu. Jeho obliba vzrostla zejména v posledních letech díky nízké ceně, vysoké účinnosti v porovnánís ostatními používanými látkami (tetracykliny, Corynebacterium parvum, bleomycin) a nízkému výskytu kompli-kací. Je zmíněna historie přípravku Corynebacterium parvum, jehož výroba v očekávání brzkého příklonu našichklinických lékařů k talku končí.
