Overview

Urinary incontinence has a major impact on quality of life and greatly influences the physical, psychological and social comfort of all patients. The decreased incidence of urinary incontinence observed in patients following treatment with injectables, brings major improvements to the quality of life in both male and female patients. Patients can resume their normal activities soon after treatment and the side effects of the treatment are very minor compared to other surgical methods. Female patients with sphincteric insufficiency and/or hypermobility of the urethra are ideal candidates for this kind of therapy. In view of the low morbidity, patients can undergo the procedure repeatedly and in case of failure an alternative surgical option can be performed. There is little difference between the various materials that are currently used and the choice of injectables can be left to the surgeon depending on personal preference, availability and price.
