Electroconvulsive Therapy: An Effective Method for Treatment of Adolescent Psychoses

Overview
The authors demonstrate on a case-record the advantages of electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) in some typesof schizophrenia in adolescents. ECT proves useful in particular in the most severe forms of the disease witha sudden onset and predominance of catatonic, affective or paranoid symptoms. They provide overall informationon the effectiveness, undesirable effects and safety of ECT in childhood and adolescence. A review of the mostimportant published papers pertaining to these age groups is presented. The problem of EEG in ECT is alsomentioned.
