Dry eye syndrome affects 5–30% of individuals over the age of 50. The beneficial effect of hyaluronic acid on the symptoms of this condition has been well described in both preclinical and clinical studies, and it has been shown that its topical application increases the secretion of water and mucin on the surface of the eye. The meta-analysis presented below focused on the efficacy of eye drops containing hyaluronic acid in the treatment of dry eye syndrome.

Obeticholic acid (OCA) is a second-line treatment for patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) who have an inadequate response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) or intolerance to it. The study presented below, the results of which were recently published, examined the effectiveness of OCA in reducing cholestatic enzymes as well as the length of survival without liver transplant in patients with PBC.

News H₂FPEF Score for Estimating the Probability of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction in Persons with Unexplained Dyspnea
The simple, validated H₂FPEF scoring system based on clinical and echocardiographic parameters, developed by experts from the Mayo Clinic, allows the differentiation of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) from dyspnea of other etiologies and helps decide whether further examinations are necessary. The score can be calculated online and in the Czech language.
News Liposomal Ozonated Oil in the Treatment of Eye Infections
Liposomal ozonated oil is a new ocular antiseptic with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties, making it suitable for the prevention and treatment of eye infections and as an adjuvant in wound healing. In June 2022, Spanish authors published a review summarizing findings on the mechanism of action and results of preclinical and clinical studies with ozonated oil in the treatment of eye infections and in the regeneration of the ocular surface. It also highlights the benefits of ozonated oil compared to conventional antiseptics such as povidone-iodine and chlorhexidine.

As a cornerstone of therapy for chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), it is recommended to start treatment with a very low dose of beta-blockers (BB) and titrate it to the maximum tolerated dose. However, it remains unclear whether one BB is superior to others. For this reason, a comprehensive pooled analysis of the efficacy and safety of bisoprolol, carvedilol, nebivolol, and metoprolol in 26 studies, including 14 randomized controlled and 12 observational, was recently published.
