News Pain Management After Day Surgery

Effective pain control is a crucial part of recovery for patients after painful surgical procedures. In clinical practice, combined analgesia using paracetamol and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is commonly utilized, which, however, is not suitable for up to a quarter of patients. An alternative could be metamizole. A study published in the European Journal of Anaesthesiology evaluated the non-inferiority of the combination of paracetamol/metamizole versus paracetamol/ibuprofen in pain management for patients after day surgery.

News Impact of Azacitidine Maintenance Therapy on Survival of Patients with AML in Remission Depending on Initial Chemotherapy

The QUAZAR AML-001 study showed that oral azacitidine maintenance therapy significantly prolongs relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first remission after intensive chemotherapy (including induction ± consolidation therapy), who are not candidates for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), compared to placebo. In October 2023, results of a subgroup analysis of patients stratified according to the use/non-use of consolidation chemotherapy and the number of consolidation chemotherapy cycles administered before entering the study were published.

News Perioperative Management in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation Treated with NOACs

The recommended procedures for perioperative management in patients using novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) stem from the requirement to minimize treatment interruption before and after surgical procedures to reduce the risk of bleeding and thromboembolism. News Memantine in Dementia Therapy – Current Findings and Possible Future Applications

Memantine is an inhibitor of NMDA receptors, which are pathologically activated by excessive concentrations of glutamate in the synaptic cleft in Alzheimer's disease. It is indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe cases of Alzheimer's disease, often in combination with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. At the experimental level, its administration shows a number of promising effects, including an impact on diabetes associated with the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

News Results of Levothyroxine Treatment in Pregnant Women with Recurrent Pregnancy Losses with Subclinical Hypothyroidism or Anti-TPO Antibody Positivity

A recent meta-analysis of 15 studies involving a total of 1911 women with a history of recurrent pregnancy losses and positivity for thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) or subclinical hypothyroidism showed the benefits of administering levothyroxine on pregnancy outcomes. Women with TPOAb experienced reductions in preterm births, miscarriages, premature rupture of membranes, and fetal growth retardation. Women with subclinical hypothyroidism saw an increase in live births and a decrease in miscarriages.

News Benefits of Combining Olopatadine and Mometasone in the Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis

Ryaltris is indicated for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older for the treatment of moderate to severe nasal symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (AR). The active ingredient of the preparation is a fixed combination of locally acting antihistamine olopatadine hydrochloride and corticosteroid mometasone furoate. Its efficacy and safety have been confirmed by numerous clinical studies, compared to placebo, as well as other drugs used in the treatment of AR.

News Anabolic Antiosteoporotic Treatment as a First Step in Patients with Very High Fracture Risk

News Recent findings on the role and potential of L. reuteri in the therapy of GIT diseases
