News Maintenance Therapy of a Female Patient with AML After Intense Chemotherapy –⁠ Case Study

The following case study presents the case of a female patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who experienced life-threatening complications after the second consolidation chemotherapy, rendering her incapable of undergoing further intense therapy or allogeneic HSCT. In this situation, maintenance therapy with oral azacitidine proved beneficial –⁠ this modality, due to its good tolerance, can be used as a bridge until allo-HSCT can be performed in patients in poor clinical condition.

News Prediction of Cancer Aggressiveness: Prostate Health Index (PHI) as a Promising Future Marker

The Prostate Health Index (PHI) is a diagnostic blood test that combines the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), free PSA (fPSA), and the isoform [-2]proPSA (p2PSA). Its use in prostate cancer diagnostics can reduce the number of unnecessary prostate biopsies compared to determining PSA alone. A recently published Czech study assessed the utility of PHI in evaluating the aggressiveness of prostate cancer. The study compared PHI values with the results of preoperative biopsy and postoperative prostate histology in men indicated for radical prostatectomy.

News Prim. MUDr. Gustáv Ondrejka: Biological treatment of asthma eliminates the need for systemic corticotherapy

Despite advances in the therapy of bronchial asthma, a portion of patients still do not achieve the desired control of the disease. The introduction of biological treatment marked a significant milestone in management, improving the prognosis for patients previously dependent on long-term systemic corticotherapy with all its negative impacts. The recently approved reimbursement for dupilumab expands treatment options for patients with severe asthma, relieving patients of common asthma comorbidities. The current perspective on the treatment of bronchial asthma is provided by the head of the Pulmonary Department at KNTB Zlín, which includes the Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Forms of Bronchial Asthma, Prim.
