Overview

Background.
Serum leptin levels and resting energy expenditure are significantly decreased in patients withanorexia nervosa compared to healthy subjects. Partial realimentation of patients with anorexia nervosa increasesboth these parameteres. However, there so far are no data concerning the relationship of serum leptin levels andresting energy expenditure in patients with anorexia nervosa. The aim of our study was to follow the relationship ofserum leptin levels and resting energy expenditure in patients with anorexia nervosa before and after refeeding. Methods and Results. It was found that serum leptin levels in patients with anorexia nervosa both before andafter partial realimentation were significantly lower compared to healthy subjects (0.86 ± 0.9 ng . ml-1and 1.77 ±1.9 ng . ml-1vs 6.85 ± 3.0 ng . ml-1, p
