Overview
The article reports on three years of experience with incorporating the subject of assessment medicine into undergraduate training of medical students in their final years of study within the syllabus of the occupational medicine clinics of Medical Faculty of Masaryk’s University in Brno and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles’ University in Prague. The article further describes the personnel situation in the Czech Republic from the point of view of the number of doctors working in the assessment medicine service. The issue of assessment is an important part of medical care and GPs tend to encounter assessment medicine most often. The authors consider the possibility of replenishment and alternation of generations in the branch of the assessment medicine service by improving medical students’ awareness of assessment medicine. Thus, future doctors, especially GPs, acquire elementary information before starting their practice. The article also discusses broadening the concept of assessment medicine with the issue of undergraduate education as an integral part of a self-contained system of medical education.
