Overview
Continuing postgraduate education of physicians is considered as an inevitable requirement for assurance and enhancement of their qualification and quality of provided medical care. The Society of General Practitioners of the Czech Medical Association J.E. Purkyně (SGP CMA JEP), one of the guarantors of education of general practitioners (GPs), has prepared and offered a comprehensive and unique education system based on traditional educational activities –
– seminars,
– conferences,
– publications in the special journal Practicus issued by the SGP CMA JEP, in combination with current teaching approaches like educational tests,
publications with GP guidelines and distance learning.
Recently, the distance learning has been developed in the form of publications at SGP web site www.svl.cz and e-learning in cooperation with www.euni.cz. A development of e-learning has brought positive results and currently its use by GPs has highly exceeded the average usage of other specialties in the Czech Republic. The review of continuing medical education of GPs, and namely the use of e-learning and its further development is given in this article.
