Overview
Although preventable, injuries present a serious public health problem in the Czech Republic. The aim of this study was to create an injury database useful for prevention targeted on the age groups most at risk, and on the activities that most commonly lead to injury. For pre-school children, prevention should be focused on home safety and toys. Sports activities and sporting equipment should be the target for prevention for school children. Promotion of injury prevention in childhood can influence injury rates, and even mortality, in adults.
