Overview
Disability in Hospitalized Patients and Those under Day CareReduction of social disability and improvement of the quality of life are among themajor targetsof modern psychiatric treatment. The authors present preliminary results of the E.D.E.N.project (European Day Care Evaluation). The aim of this prospective, multicentric, randomizedstudy is to compare the efficiency of day-care psychiatric treatment with classic hospitalization.210 patients admitted to the University Hospital Department of Psychiatry, Prague, wererandomly divided into two groups (day care and hospitalized). GSDS (Groningen SocialDisability Scale) was used as a diagnostic instrument for social disability evaluation. Theexamination was performed on admission and 3 months after dismissal from treatment. Thehighest social disability was found in partner, family, and occupational roles in both groups.Higher social disability was found in persons receiving a disability pension and persons withouta stable partner relationship. In the total score of social disability there were not found anysignificant differences between the two groups of patients.
