Overview
The authors discuss the problem of existence in particular of university dermatovenereologicalin-patient facilities. Based on quotations of professional literature they prove the importanceof in-patient facilities for the discipline of dermatovenereology, for undergraduate and postgraduatetraining, research and therapeutic care. On the example of countries where these bedswere abolished they demonstrate that hospital admissions on account of dermatological diagnosesdid not diminish and the patients were not looked after by a dermatologist who providesthe best care of these patients. Abolition of beds could according to the authors lead, along withother influences, to a marked reduction of the standard of care of patients and possibly to theabolition of clinical dermatovenerology as such.
Key words:
reduction of dermatovenereological beds - importance of in-patient facilities for the discipline - clinical dermatovenereology.
