Overview
The author compared three groups of patients suffering from osteoporosis treated for one yearwith calcium and fluorides (Tridin) N=51, Osteogenon alone (N=67) and a combination of Tridinand Osteogenon (N=43). While the annual increments of density of the spine assessed on aDEXA apparatus were after Tridin +6.1% and after Osteogenon +4.75%, the same incrementson the proximal femur are only +3,7% and 3.2%. After a one-year combined treatment withTridin and Osteogenon the density increments of the spine are +7.6% and on the proximal femur5.98%. Both increments differ significantly from those after treatment with separate prepara-tions. During the follow up period only one new fracture (Colles fracture) occurred in the grouptreated with Osteogenon. Despite higher costs for the patients this combined treatment is sofar most effective as regards mineralization of both sites and a marked decline of new fractures.
Key words:
