Overview
1. The number of HDC did not change during the past two years, a steep increase occurredbetween 1990 and 1995. This development made treatment available without the formerlimitations (limitations as regards diagnosis and age).2. In the dialyzed population during the mentioned five years the number of patients from moreadvanced age groups increased, more than half are above 60 years of age. During the periodalso the number of diabetic patients increased markedly and in 1997 they accounted for onethird of the dialyzed population.3. As to the number of patients having dialyzation treatment we are still behind the countriesof the EU. An adverse indicator of the quality of treatment is the high mortality.4. It is important to ensure early dispensarization of patients with creatinine levels above 300mml/l in predialyzation ou-patient departments.5. Peritoneal dialysis is used only in a very small percentage of patients as this method is nottraditional in this country.
