Overview
The analysis is based on a group of 89 patients with salmonelloses, hospitalized betweenJannuary and June 1997. This group was compared, using the chi square test, with a similargroup from 1995 and because they did not differ statistically the combined group was comparedwith a group of patients with salmonellosis treated in 1982-1986. Treatment was elaboratedin detail in GE forms of salmonellosis and as regards the problem of sanitation. As comparedwith the eighties, as expected, at present the prevalence of salmonelloses with a predominanceof S. enteritidis is higher. It is, however, interesting that a substantially higher proportion ofthe patients is above 60 years of age. Nowadays patients with a positive bacteriological findingin the faeces are more frequently discharged from hospital. The hospital period is shorter, inparticular in younger patients. The proportion of gastroenteric forms nor the prevalence ofassociated diseases has changed. In the treatment of GE forms of salmonellosis (due to morefrequent pathological findings in the internal environment) infusion therapy is used morefrequently.
