DIATEENS – teenagers, healthy eating and diabetes

The Slovak nationwide project DIATEENS – teenagers, healthy eating and diabetes analyses the current level of nutrition and activity habits and knowledge within the age group between 16 and 20 years. The project objective was to make use of active access to the group of teenagers and adolescents to influence obtained habits and provide enough information to change the unwanted condition, because nutrition and movement habits in the early stages of human development have the impact on the occurrence and development of civilisation diseases later in life. The current condition analysis showed unsatisfactory results relating to eating habits and scope of movement activity. On the other hand, the project proved enough willingness for a positive change. Information and targeted approach management in cooperation with the monitored teenagers contributed to their willingness to cooperate, create new regime formulas and contribute to better prospective of the risk rate of metabolic, cardiovascular diseases and obesity. Interdisciplinary approach to the management proved to be highly efficient. The regime “lifestyle” measures – eating habits and movement habits are the key at the possibility of the diseases occurrence and development in every individual, they influence the quality of life in the future. The project findings create the basis for further activities in relation to recommended nutritional intake.
