Overview
Chronic lung disease (CLD) occurs in a significant proportion of very low birth weight newborns in the CzechRepublic and other developed countries. Oxygenotherapy (OT) is a part of their treatment. The authors describethe way oxygenotherapy was conducted under home conditions in a group of 14 children. The mean length of homeOT was 7.7 months. Hospital stay is considerably shorter when using home OT. Moreover psychomotor developmentand mother - child bonding is better at home, the risk of nosocomial infections is eliminated and costs are lower.
