Overview
Cardiovascular diseases caused by atherosclerosis are still the main cause of mortality and morbidity in theCzech Republic and other advanced countries of the world. Large long-term studies convincingly show thatatherosclerotic changes begin in the childhood and correlation of these changes with the same risk factors as inadults individuals is possible. The recommendation issued by theAmerican Heart Association was adjusted in viewof new knowledge for adults and children in the year 2002. This article specified the strategy for practical use ofthe guidelines in pediatric practice.
