Overview

The mother’s milk provides the child by necessary nutrients, but also drugs, which the breast-feeding womanuses. Many drugs, which come into the mother’s milk, are potentially dangerous for the suckling. Most drugs, which the mother takes, may be determined in the mother’s milk, but the concentrations of drugs are generallylower than plasma levels of the drug in the mother. These concentrations are mostly tolerated by the child, but inspite of that even those amounts may exert untoward effects. The authors present a survey of untoward effects ofdrugs coming into the mother’s milk and recommendation for breast-feeding women.
