Overview

During the last decade recombinant DNA technologies have facilitated development and production ofhaemopoietic growth factor (colony stimulating factors - CSF) which stimulate the proliferation and maturationof haematopoietic cells. CSF (mainly granulocyte and granulocyte macrophage CSF) in children is widely useddespite the absence of conclusive supportive data, and despite the high cost of these d rugs. This review is devoted to one of the most controversial, but most common reason for their use prophylactic use.A summary of recomended uses of the CSF in paediatric oncology is presented praxis and relevant clinical studiesare discussed.
