Overview

The authors present an attempt to verify the efficiency of the Professor Janda’s concept in the therapy of patients with chronic back pains within the framework of a three-week intensive rehabilitation program oriented to improved stability of the spine. The subjective perception of the pain was evaluated as well as its impact on various aspects of life by means of the “pain questionnaire”.

Methods:
the group consisted of 210 patients, 91 men and 159 women at the age of 19 to 89 years and the mean age of 59.34 years (S.D. 15.12). Physiotherapy concentration on the adjustment of peripheral changes in locomotor apparatus and subsequently the activation of stabilization muscles of the trunk. The evaluation of pain by means of the Brief Pain Inventory was made at the beginning and at the end of the therapy. The statistical evaluation was made by linear regression with determination of statistical significance of correlation coefficient.

Results:
The improvement was reached in all parameters evaluated, and the efficiency of therapy was not influenced by age, original degree of affection or sex.

Conclusion:
The concept of Professor Janda proved to be effective in the treatment of chronic back pains.

Key words:
pain in the area of lumbar spine, physiotherapy, treatment efficiency
