At the Urological Clinic in Hradec Králové in collaboration with the department of nuclearmedicine the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in serum of 50 patients (mean age 67 yearswas examined using the semiquantitative membrane test. For examination patients withprostate carcinoma were indicated as well as patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BHP).The results were compared with quantitative results of PSA levels obtained by immunoradiometricanalysis (IRMA) in the same serum samples. The sensitivity of the test was 0.933, thespecificity 1.0. The ratio of falsely positive results was 0.0. The ration of falsely negative resultswas 0.067, the incorrect negative results were within the range of marginal differentiatinglimits of the test. The predictive value of the positive test was 1.0, the predictive value of thenegative test was 0.909. The accuracy of the test, the probability of a correct conclusion of thetest was 0.96. Due to its accessibility and unpretentious character the test is useful for rapidpreliminary examination of PSA levels in ambulatory practice.
