Overview
Dementia is a progressive neurocognitive disorder that leads to a gradual decline in cognitive functions, independence, and social functioning. It significantly affects the quality of life of both patients and their families and raises several ethical issues in health and social care. The aim of this paper is to analyse ethical aspects of care for people with dementia, focusing on autonomy, dignity, informed consent, surrogate decision-making, and the use of restrictive measures. The paper also highlights the multidimensional nature of quality of life and the need for a holistic approach in care.
