Arkady method – a new approach to correct ingrown nails

Overview

Introduction: Ingrown toenails is a diagnosis frequently encountered in a surgeon’s day to day work. Patients most often find their way to the surgery as a result of inflammatory complications. The routine practice entails removal of the mechanical cause of the pathology through ablation of the toenail or part thereof. Arkada’s Method is a viable treatment option. It is a Polish, non-invasive method, which does not remove the toenail, but it keeps it and reconstructs it and affords all the associated advantages.

Own observation: Due to the character of the method, if inflammation occurs, soft tissues begin healing immediately after the surgery, without the need to use antibiotics. We only prescribed these as supportive treatments in 4% of the cases. For chronically overgrown skin folds, particularly following inflammation, in order to prevent recurring ingrowing, a surgical operation of the nail skin folds is sometimes recommended – "plastic surgery according to Arkada". 

Conclusion: The new, patented and safe Arkada’s Method results in an immediate, bloodless remedy of the cause of ingrowing toenails without the need to resort to ablation. Its main benefits include immediate alleviation of pain and the fact that patients can return to normal lives without any restrictions. The way the nail plate is handled, means that it is particularly recommended when treating toes of patients suffering from diabetes. It eliminates the occurrence of complications, and in particular of deformation of new nail plate, which is also important for aesthetic reasons.
