Overview
The article outlines the current views of the etiopathogenesis, differential diagnosis and rational treatment of oedema. Oedema is ordinarily defined as an abnormal accumulation of extravascular extracellular interstitial fluid of sufficient magnitude to be clinically detectable. Oedema may be generalized or localized. Pathophysiological mechanisms of oedema are different. The rational approach to the management of oedema is the correction of the underlying disease process.
