Overview
The authors present a brief account of the problem of names of drugs. They define terms suchas chemical name, trivial term, code designation, generic name, international nonproprietaryname (its use, selection and modification), protected name, official name, generic term, genericalternative, generic substitution, therapeutic alternative, therapeutic substitution and therapeuticexchange. They draw attention to the lack of uniformity of the use of these names andrecommend to use above all the international nonproprietary name of drugs and branded namesof original drugs and generic drugs.
