Overview
Helicobacter pylori is linked to chronic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulceration. Helicobacter heilmannii colonizing urostly the antrum is known to be associated with chronic gastritis, less severe than those associated with Helicobacter pylori. The authors describe a 14-year-old girl with primary gastric ulcer and Helicobacter heilmannii infection in the gastric mucosa presenting with acute abdominal pain and haematemesis, and a 16-year-old boy with chronic active gastritis associated with large lymphoid nodules presenting with a 6-month history of abdominal pain, weight loss and decreased appetite. Helicobacter heilmannii was detected after silver impregnation and routine histological examination. They esere given eradication therapy (omeprazol, metronidazol, clarithromycin, amoxycillin) and check-up examination showed no colonisation by spiral-shaped bacteria and the symptoms improved. No ulcer recurrence occurred. Helicobacter heilmannii infection is an uncommon pathogen that should be considered to be a cause of primary gastric ulceration in Children.
