Overview
The submitted paper summarizes longstanding experience of the authors with the diagnosis and comprehensivetreatment of children and adults with osteochondrodysplasias, i.e. bone dysplasias. During less than five year’sexistence of the Ambulant centre for defects of locomotor apparatus in Prague the authors diagnosed 35 nosologicalunits in a group of 216 patients with bone dysplasias. For the majority of the mentioned patients they ensuretherapeutic and preventive care, comprehensive treatment (paediatric, orthotic-prosthetic, orthopedic and surgi-cal) as well as rehabilitation - in collaboration with the rehabilitation department of the hospital and policlinic inKostelec, and also genetic counselling. In individual comprehensive care (from birth to death) participates a teamof specialists. An essential factor is collaboration with the family where birth of an affected child frequently hasa profound impact on the psychic and social position in the family. The objective of comprehensive treatment isto prepare the child for a dignified, reasonable and happy life and to integrate him in society as a valuable subjectwith a satisfactory social background.
