Overview

Ingrown or pincer toenails are among the common health complications of both children and adults. This problem affects mostly big toes but can occur on all toes. Many procedures have been described for repairing these nails, either conservatively or surgically. The conservative methods include precise treatment with a podology device and the use of supportive methods, such as tamponade, pulling of the lateral nail folds or correction of hallus valgus. The key skill is orthonyxia, i. e. straightening of toenails using nail braces. The main purpose is to solve as many cases as possible in a non-invasive way and, above all, painlessly. There is currently number of different types of braces on the market, differing in material, method of application and activation, and the kind of effect on the affected nail. The main advantage of orthonyxia is also the absence of postoperative complications, medication-related burden, temporary imobility and incapacity for work.
